A traditional yoni egg ritual, inspired by ancient Taoist and tantric practices, is a deeply feminine, sacred way to connect with your body, clear stored emotions, and cultivate sexual and spiritual energy.
The yoni egg practice has varied across time and place- (China, India, Egypt), yet there are running threads, or tenets found consistently throughout all its various lineages.
Here is a ritual based on the principles found throughout its different cultural traditions.
Sacred space & intention
Connect with your crystal, remembering it is a tool of spiritual healing, and that the yoni egg practice is a spiritual/ energetic one, not just physical.
Meditate on your intention
Deepen awareness of the body and your energy/ emotional self through some slow, conscious breaths.
Optionally, smudge yourself, your room & your crystal with sage, palo santo, or incense.
Prayer and communion with your higher self.
Create sacred space
Light candles, burn incense, play soft rhythmic music or chant; this allows you to get into more of a theta brain wave state where deep healing, connection and expansion across the different levels of self becomes possible.
You might want a mirror, journal, rose water, essential oils nearby. Any thing that helps you drop into the feeling body and out of the thinking mind.
Lay out a yoga mat or soft blanket.
Set an intention
Examples:
“I open to my sensuality,”
“I call in healing of the subconscious blocks holding me back from deeper joy,”
“I reclaim my body & my sacred sexuality.”
Whatever you require to shift in your life, mind or body.
Ritual Practice
1. Warm-up: Breath & Movement
• Sit or lie comfortably.
• Practice deep womb breathing: Inhale and as you do so, imagine the air going into your into your yoni/womb/ lower belly. Experiment with visualising the yoni inhaling as you inhale through the mouth. Exhale deeply and let eerything release. You can also make some sounds on the exhale through the mouth as you sigh.
• Do some hip circles, cat-cow, Goddess squats, sufi grind and circular movements of the spine to awaken the pelvis. These are very beneficial for women in order to encourage energy flow in the womb, and to open the portal of feminine energy flow and sensation.
2. Yoni Massage (optional but powerful)
• Use warm oil (like coconut or jojoba).
• Gently massage outer labia, inner thighs, stomach, breasts, heart space.
• Connect to sensations without rushing. This can awaken dormant energy and increase receptivity.
3. Insert the egg- being led by your yoni’s level of opening
• Hold the egg at your yoni’s entrance. Exhale deeply and relax all parts of your body. Notice the opening to your vagina, is she open and welcoming or is she feeling constricted. Pay attention and never cross her boundary. Take your time and notice that your yoni may “draw in” the egg when she is ready.
Practice Phase (Yoni Egg Inside)
Depending on your level of experience and intention, you can:
A. Stillness Ritual
• Sit or lie down in meditation.
• Visualize the egg glowing within, radiating healing light.
• Connect with your womb space, inner voice & sensations / emotions that may arise, breathe through any waves.
B. Movement Ritual
• In conjunction with your breathing (and you can experiment with rhythm and pattern) gently contract and release pelvic floor muscles (yoni squeezes/ Kegels).
• Try a set of 10 slow squeezes, then 10 pulses. Notice that there are different sections of the yoni that you are able to engage.
Experiment with contracting the very entrance, then subsequently the inner muscular canal, then finally the entire area, squeezing an imaginary inner third section all the way up by the cervix.
When you release; do so with a big exhale and let go- consciously release all tension.
• You may also move through a yoni yoga flow (like squats, goddess pose, pelvic tilts).
C. Sound Activation
• Chant “Yam” (heart chakra) or “Shreem” (feminine abundance).
• Vocal vibration helps open stuck areas and align the womb-heart channel.
Closing the Ritual
1. Remove the egg gently, with gratitude. If you are not using a drilled egg with a string for retrieval, sometimes the egg may be easier to remove by squatting, gently bearing down and inserting a finger to the side of the egg in order to “hook” it out.
2. Wash and cleanse it (physical and energetic).
3. Journal or reflect:
• How do you feel? What did you release or receive?
• Any visions, memories, sensations?
4. Seal the ritual:
• Close with prayer, take a warm bath.
Understand that sometimes you will be processing emotions in the 1-3 days post practice, allow anything that comes up to flow, and provide yourself the necessary care and comfort during integration & processing times.
When these occur, doubtless on the other side of these processes is immediate deeper sensual sensitivity and embodiment levels.
Ancient Wisdom Reminders
• Frequency: In ancient Taoist tradition, beginners practiced 1–3 times per week, not daily.
• Menstrual Time: Avoid practice during menstruation or active infections.
• Integration: Let the ritual be a journey—not a goal. Healing can be subtle or intense.
